NEWSOM APPROVES CEQA REFORM THAT MAY ACTUALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE
KPIX ran a news segment on Governor Newsom’s June 30 signing of AB 130, which eliminates environmental review for new housing in already developed, urban (“infill”) areas. Newsom’s bill generally incorporated AB 609, introduced this year by East Bay Assemblymember Buffy Wicks.
KPIX interviewed me for the story because I advocated on behalf of AB 609 after seeing housing projects scuttled due to CEQA appeals and lawsuits. I also saw that previous legislative efforts to reform CEQA had failed to get to the heart of the matter.
