Permitted Oakland Pollinator Garden Addresses Decades Old Problems

I recently obtained the Caltrans permits for the new community pollinator garden project and served as the project’s manager. The effort was remarkably successful and stands as a testament to what local community leadership can achieve. For decades, Oakland’s blighted Caltrans lots have plagued neighborhoods, a problem only worsened by Oakland’s illegal dumping crisis. Through Sidewalk Trees & Gardens (an organization I founded in 2014 to bring gardens and tree planting to high-need areas), we transformed the lot in just over twelve months. Our efforts caught the attention of the SF Chronicle, KTVU, NBC, CBS, and The East Bay Express, who interviewed me regarding our community-led solution.
